Soler & Scata Named NHS Sportsmanship Award Winners

Sabrina is a dedicated member of the soccer and basketball teams at NHS. She is an aggressive and physical player, so contact is inevitable. Even though she plays physcially, she is always the first to extend a hand to help an opponent or teammate up while asking if they are okay. Her ability to play at the highest level, but maintain friendly interaction while competing is what earned her this distinguished award.

Salvo shows his commitment to the program and his teammates day in and day out. He was often the first one at practice and the last one off the bus to ensure his teammates had everything they needed. Throughout his career Salvo was always there to help teammates and congratulate them and opponents alike after a strong event. Clear examples of his sportsmanship were once at a State Finals meet when one of his teammates was injured and needed help out of his tech suit, he made sure to help him out even though he had an event coming up. He also displayed his sportsmanship during his Senior year when he battled with injury all year, but continued to cheer and support his teammates. Before his final race, he was battling an injury, and he was gracious enough to step aside and allow another swimmer to take his spot in order to give his teammates an opportunity to succeed. These few examples show the true meaning of sportsmanship and why Salvo has earned this honor.
